What is the difference between TN229, TN229XL and TN229XXL?
TN229 is standard yield, TN229XL is high yield, and TN229XXL is super high yield. Black cartridges are rated for approximately 1,500, 3,000 and 4,500 pages respectively. Each cyan, magenta or yellow cartridge is rated for 1,200, 2,300 or 4,000 pages. XXL also has a narrower printer compatibility list.
Does TN229XXL work in every TN229 printer?
No. Brother lists TN229XXL for the HL-L3295CDW, HL-L8245CDW, MFC-L3780CDW and MFC-L8395CDW. A printer that accepts TN229 or TN229XL does not automatically accept TN229XXL.
Which toner fits the Brother MFC-L3780CDW?
The MFC-L3780CDW supports TN229 standard-yield, TN229XL high-yield and TN229XXL super-high-yield black, cyan, magenta and yellow toner cartridges.
Can I mix TN229, TN229XL and TN229XXL?
You can select a supported capacity separately for each color. For example, a printer that supports all three yields can use super-high-yield black with standard-yield colors. Every cartridge must be approved for the exact printer model and installed in its matching color position.
Do the different yields go in the same color position?
Yes, for yield versions supported by your printer. Black goes in the black position, and cyan, magenta and yellow each go in their corresponding position. A matching color alone does not make an unsupported XXL cartridge compatible.
Is TN229XXL always the cheapest per page?
No. Compare the current cartridge price divided by its rated page yield. XXL gives 50% more rated black pages than XL and about 74% more rated pages per color cartridge, but the price difference determines which has the lower toner cost per page.
Does a toner set include the drum unit?
These four-color toner sets contain black, cyan, magenta and yellow toner cartridges. Toner and the drum unit are separate supplies. Replacing toner does not automatically mean the drum needs replacement; follow the printer’s message.
