The short answer

HP 210A is standard-yield toner; HP 210X is high-yield toner. Choose 210A when a smaller upfront purchase suits your needs. Compare 210X when you print regularly and want more pages between replacements. The best value depends on the price of the exact cartridge you buy.

HP 210A vs 210X: Cartridge Numbers and Page Yields

The letters tell you the capacity; the product number identifies the color. Use these direct links to compare individual original HP cartridges at Genuine Ink. You can replace a single color without buying a complete set.

HP 210A and HP 210X cartridge numbers and approximate yields
Color HP 210A Rated pages HP 210X Rated pages
Black W2100A 2,000 W2100X 7,500
Cyan W2101A 1,800 W2101X 5,500
Yellow W2102A 1,800 W2102X 5,500
Magenta W2103A 1,800 W2103X 5,500

HP lists these replacement cartridges for the Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4301fdw. The ratings are approximately 2,000 black pages and 1,800 pages per color for 210A, versus 7,500 black pages and 5,500 pages per color for 210X. See HP’s official 4301fdw specifications.

Rated yields are comparison figures, not guaranteed output. Actual results depend on what you print and other factors. Color ratings are per cartridge: adding cyan, yellow, and magenta together does not give you a set’s full-color page yield.

How Much Longer Does HP 210X Last?

3.75×

the rated black-page yield
7,500 ÷ 2,000

3.06×

the rated yield per color
5,500 ÷ 1,800, rounded

For an office printing invoices, reports, and shipping paperwork, the black cartridge may be the first supply to consider. If your team produces color proposals or customer handouts every day, compare the high-yield cyan, yellow, and magenta options as well.

These ratios describe rated pages, not a fixed number of months. Two offices using the same cartridge can replace it at very different times. Think about the volume you actually print and how often you currently order supplies.

Is HP 210X Worth the Higher Upfront Price?

Compare the cost per page for the same color and packaging condition. A cheaper cartridge can still be more expensive to use over time if its rated capacity is much smaller.

Cartridge price ÷ rated yield = estimated toner cost per page

For example, imagine a black 210A cartridge costs $100 and a black 210X costs $200. These are hypothetical prices, not current store offers. The calculation would be $100 ÷ 2,000 = 5.00¢ per page for 210A, versus $200 ÷ 7,500 ≈ 2.67¢ for 210X. In that example, 210X costs twice as much upfront but about 47% less per rated page.

Your break-even rule: 210X black has a lower rated toner cost per page when its price is less than 3.75 times the 210A black price. For each color, the threshold is 5,500 ÷ 1,800, or approximately 3.056 times. Use the unrounded calculation when prices are very close.

Compare W2100A standard-yield black with W2100X high-yield black using the current prices for your selected options. Toner cost per page excludes paper, maintenance, taxes, and differences between rated and actual output.

Which HP 210 Toner Should You Choose?

Choose 210A for lighter printing

Standard yield can suit a home office, a lightly used workgroup printer, or a color you rarely replace. If keeping today’s purchase smaller matters most, compare the standard-yield option first.

Compare 210X for frequent printing

High yield makes sense to consider when you print consistently, replace toner often, or find a better cost per page at the current price. Its extra capacity can mean fewer replacement interruptions.

Buy for your actual usage. If only cyan is low, compare W2101A cyan and W2101X high-yield cyan. A four-pack is worth comparing when you need all four colors or want a complete replacement set on hand; it is not automatically the least expensive choice for a single low cartridge.

Which Printers Use HP 210A and HP 210X?

Before You Order: Three Useful Checks

1. Confirm the cartridge number. W2100 is black, W2101 is cyan, W2102 is yellow, and W2103 is magenta. The A or X suffix selects standard or high yield.

2. Compare equivalent product options. Read the packaging condition and included warranty on the listing before comparing prices. The chosen option can affect the purchase price independently of cartridge capacity. Learn more about Genuine Ink’s pricing strategy.

3. Decide whether you need one color or a set. Check your printer’s supplies screen, then choose the colors you actually need. Review our shipping and return policy for order details.

HP 210A and HP 210X: Frequently Asked Questions

Can I mix HP 210A and HP 210X?

Yes. In a compatible printer, you can use HP 210X high-yield black alongside HP 210A standard-yield colors. Choose each cartridge’s yield separately and match each cartridge to its color position. You do not need to replace all four just to change one cartridge’s yield.

Do HP 210A and HP 210X fit the same slot?

Yes. The standard- and high-yield versions of the same color fit the same cartridge position in printers that support HP 210A and HP 210X. For example, W2100A and W2100X both go in the black position. The higher yield changes how many rated pages the cartridge can print.

What is the difference between HP 210A and HP 210X?

210A is the standard-yield option and 210X is the high-yield option. The practical buying decision is how much rated capacity you need and what you pay per page.

Does W2100X mean HP 210X black?

Yes. W2100X identifies the high-yield black cartridge. W2100A is its standard-yield counterpart. The other three colors use W2101, W2102, and W2103.

Are HP 210A and 210X ink cartridges?

They are toner cartridges for compatible laser printers. Check the cartridge number when shopping for supplies for a 4301fdw or 4201dw.

Is 210X always the cheaper option?

No. It has more rated capacity, but value depends on the selected product’s price and how much you print. Compare the same color and packaging condition using the cost-per-page formula above.

Are HP 210 and HP 414 the same cartridges?

They are separate cartridge families. Do not substitute one family for the other based on yield or appearance. If you are buying for an M479fdw, see our HP 414A vs 414X guide and confirm that printer’s supplies.
